Of all of the events that I’ve attended over the years, I think my favourite ones to go to are hosted by Natalie at the Liverpool John Lewis counter of GHD. There’s absolutely nothing better than learning all about hair and different styles; all the more so if there’s a charity to support at the end of it all. Along with Danielle, Josie and Amy, pink lemonade in hand, we joined Natalie at the GHD counter, excited to learn all about the amazing work GHD has been doing in support of Breast Cancer Charities, particularly Breast Cancer Now.

Inspired by the pink infusion tone that has been popular EVERYWHERE recently, GHD have taken a leaf out of a lot of brands books to get involved in supporting research into global breast cancer charities. Since starting this collaboration 13 years ago, GHD has raised over 10 million pounds and have brought out a limited edition Pink Blush Collection with some of the proceeds going towards additional Breast Cancer Research.

Natalie talked us through the new collection and told us all about the work that GHD are doing with Little Princess Trust, collecting hair donations to make wigs for children suffering from cancer related hair-loss. In light of this, the new collection’s how-to content focuses on shorter hairstyles. My hair is no where near long enough for hair donation, unfortunately, but I’m almost tempted to have the chop anyway just so I can style these beautiful trends.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a GHD event with Natalie if she didn’t take the time to style our hair. My hair is incredibly thick so I’m usually a bit apprehensive to have curls put in it, for fear of making the stylist work on my hair for hours at a time. With loose curls in mind, Natalie worked wonders and my hair was beautifully curly in less than half an hour and I was all set to go out and about on the town.

You can purchase the new GHD Pink Blush Collection on GHD stands and online. Prices vary but each product includes a donation to a Cancer Research Charity.

We all love a good pamper session, right? I know I do. The last few months of my life have been hectic, full of sleep deprivation and a lot more stress than is healthy for a girl of my age. I have to admit- I’ve really let myself go. I’ve skipped putting on my makeup on a daily basis to benefit from that extra 20 minutes in bed. I’ve let my brows go, to the point where they’re as far away from en fleek as possible. I have EYE BAGS. At 23!!!!

When one of my favourite PR ladies got in touch with me on behalf of Vogue Hair and Beauty Lounge in Liverpool, I honestly felt like all my prayers had been answered. I was offered the choice of a complimentary curly blow or makeup application. As I had a leaving do for one of my jobs coming up, I thought I’d get my makeup done so I could feel like the belle of the ball for once rather than the ugly duckling that teaching has turned me into.

Vogue Hair & Beauty, situated on Old Hall Street right in the heart of Liverpool, is a little gem. Hidden away in a old-fashioned building, the salon itself reeks of style and sophistication and everything you look for when aiming for glamour. When I arrived, I was offered a drink by staff and seated comfortably. Beth, the lady who was doing my makeup application, was a lovely and attentive member of staff and I felt at ease from the word go. The salon was beautifully furnished and decorated, bright and full of light, and really felt welcoming as you entered.

I’ve had makeup applications before where I’ve had to spend a LOT of time post-application dabbing off excess product and toning down what had been done to me. That most definitely wasn’t the case here. The makeup was applied with precision and care, and Beth took the time to ask me about my thoughts before applying. The products that she used were of a high standard and complimented my skin tone perfectly. I opted for a lash-less look as I’m not really all that used to wearing them and I have pretty long lashes anyway. I also opted for nude shades on my eyes- I’d bought a gorgeous skirt from Topshop to wear and the makeup really matched with the look. Beth finished off the look with a gorgeous coating of a matt lip version of the infamous MAC Velvet Teddy lipstick and I was good to go, after taking a few selfies of course!

I would definitely go back to Vogue for a makeup application- and I’m planning on booking in for when we take a trip to the races. I’m quite a safe makeup user- I use the same products, in the same way, every single time I put makeup on, so it was nice to go out of my comfort zone and spice things up a little. I felt confident after application and got SO many compliments on the amazing job that Beth did on my makeup. Thank you so much to the guys at Vogue for the treatment, it really was much appreciated!

Last week, I had a very beauty focused week: I visited the fantastic Woodland’s Beauty Clinic to give a few of their treatments a whirl and was blown away by what they had to offer. I was also invited to have a little masterclass in John Lewis, at the GHD counter there: the lovely Natalie was there to introduce me to all the amazing products that GHD have to offer.

We all know GHD and we’ve probably all owned a pair of their incredible straighteners at one time or another in our lives. Personally, I managed to resist the temptation of buying a pair for quite a while and it took my straighteners dying a death for me to bite the bullet and invest in a wide pair of the devils. I have incredibly thick, wavy hair and there is absolutely no pair of straighteners that works on my hair other than GHD: the fact I waited so long to invest actually pains me a little, as I probably could have had hours of my life back that I wasted attempting to straighten my hair with rubbish quality straightening irons. I’m all about creating a smooth, effortless look that doesn’t take much time (busy gal, over here!) and GHD are definitely the brand to be using to ensure that that is the case.

Natalie showed all of the products to me, explaining how the different styles of straightening iron and curling tongs and wands work. I loved the upgraded versions of the classic GHD straighteners and I’ve took an instant likening for the GHD Platinum Stylers, a hair straightener that looks as gorgeous as the styles it creates. Natalie explained that the irons use tri-zone technology, which ensures equal distribution of heat and doesn’t damage your gorgeous locks in the process! Natalie also introduced me to a product I’m most definitely lusting after now and have been since the event: a little travel hairdryer. You might think, “Hollie, it’s a hairdryer. What could possibly be so special about a hairdryer?” Go in to John Lewis and up to the GHD counter and have a word with Natalie, and you’ll find out why I love it so much. (Spoiler alert: cool air and warm air separation, portability and POWER.)

Natalie also very kindly curled my hair for me, using all of the amazing GHD products to make sure that it stays healthy in spite of the heat. I personally own a curling wand and I absolutely adore it, so I asked Natalie to give me a subtler, classic look, channelling thick curls. I absolutely adored the look that Natalie gave me and I felt like a million dollars leaving the store afterwards. I was also incredibly lucky to receive a little goody bag full of fantastic GHD products and I am very excited to try them out!

Not a lot of people are aware of the GHD station in John Lewis, as it’s quite far back in the store and is quite small but I honestly couldn’t fault the products and the care and attention you get from staff there. Top tip from Natalie: if you buy products, you’re more than welcome to have a little hair master class yourself. So get yourself down to GHD next time you’re on a night out: we all need a good quality bottle of heat defence spray, for example, so why not treat yourself and then let GHD treat you?

Thanks so much to Natalie and to GHD for the lovely, lovely treat! I’ll definitely be coming back to purchase that hairdryer upon pay-day!!
