Read post

I’ve had a busy few days recently but I’m starting to get back on the ball- preparing for going back to university, keeping on top of housework, work and blogging has taken its toll a little bit but who doesn’t love a challenge! I thought I’d do a little September Reading list post as I haven’t done one in a while. I’ve only got 4 books on my list this month because I know how busy I’m going to be, but I’m sure I’ll get them finished pretty quickly.

I received a copy of The Chosen Queen by Joanna Courtney from the lovely team at Pan Macmillan. I’ve actually heard quite a lot about this book and was thrilled when I was asked if I wanted a copy of it sending to me. Joanna Courtney is being advertised as being the next Philippa Gregory and that’s an absolutely enormous accolade. I haven’t started it yet but it’s first on my list for this month.

Sticking with my theme of reading war fiction, the other three books on my list are war related in some way or another. My second book is Leaving Berlin by Joseph Kanon, set in post-war Berlin. This book jumped out at me in Waterstones and then when I got to the counter it was set up there as one of the reads of the month so I definitely think it was a good choice. My second of three war based fiction choices is The Heroes’ Welcome by Louisa Young. This novel is set after the end of World War One and focuses on its affects. My final choice is one that I’ve had for a while and haven’t got around to reading- The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan, which is set in Japan.

I’m excited to get stuck into these books and post my reviews up here!

It’s my 22nd birthday this month and I’ve been eyeing up quite a few beauty goodies! I’ve been on a complete and utter shopping ban for the last 2 months and I’ve done SO well, I only slipped once in that time and that was purchasing something I actually needed as opposed to wanted so I’ll let it slide!

I’ve been eyeing up the Naked Smokey Palette from the moment it was announced and I’ve read so many different reviews by bloggers to see if it’s worth the price and I think I’ve been convinced. The colours look amazing and the packaging alone was enough to make me fall in love with it. I didn’t get around to getting any of the other Naked palettes as I’m not much of a neutral eye makeup kind of girl, so I definitely think the smoky one is much more suited to me.

I included the NARS contouring kit in my NARS wishlist and I haven’t got around to buying this one yet, so I thought I’d include it in this wishlist as well. I’m quite glad that a few months later I’m still lusting after this product because it is quite expensive so at least I know for sure that I actually do want it. I love the packaging and the look of the product and I’ve heard nothing but good things about it!

Every year I receive a few pieces from pandora and the ring and the charm here at the two I’ve chosen this year. The charm has the birthstone for September on it and I think it’s absolutely gorgeous! The ring will go beautifully with the one I already wear so I’m looking forward to stacking them up!

I absolutely love the Real Techniques brush sets so I thought I’d ask for some nice new eye brushes, considering how I’m hoping to purchase the Naked Palette. I’ve heard that these are very good brushes and they’re very reasonably priced as well.

Finally, I’m really getting into cooking lately and I absolutely love Gino D’Acampo. Italian food is definitely my favourite type of food so I hope his cookbook is as good as it looks. I’ve asked my little brother to get this one for me!

Maybelline Rocket Volum’ Mascara
For the last few years I’ve used nothing but Benefit mascaras, swapping from They’re Real to the Rollerlash mascara just a few months back. They had a promotion on at the Leclerc supermarket in Strasbourg and I managed to get the Maybelline Rocket Lash mascara for just a few euros. I kept it in a drawer under my bed for ages but I’ve started using it properly the last week and a half and I absolutely love it! I have long and thick eyelashes naturally so mascara isn’t my priority when I’m doing my makeup but this one really adds both volume and length to my lashes and it’s incredibly noticeable!

Shut up and Dance - Talking is Hard
I just cannot get this catchy song out of my head and considering that the last song that was in my head for as long as this one was Sugar by Maroon 5 (and it’s still my fave song of 2015) it’s unlikely to leave any time soon. If you haven’t heard it already, although I’m sure everyone in the UK has by now, give it a listen!

F.R.I.E.N.D.S
I’ve been getting properly back into FRIENDS again the last few weeks and I’ve been watching the series from the beginning again. Watching it over and over just makes me remember how amazing this series is and how many amazing times I’ve had over the years watching it.

THE OFFICE US
I’ve also been watching WAY too much of The Office. I’ve gotten through 4 seasons of it SO quickly and I don’t see myself getting bored of it any time soon. I love all of the characters (except for Ryan, weirdly) and I completely “ship” Pam and Jim. I can’t wait to see where the storyline is heading and get up to date with it all.

Thrillers
I’ve read some fantastic books recently, but I’m particularly enjoying thrillers. I finished The Lie by C.L. Taylor last week and I’m looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into The Girl in the Photograph by Kate Riordan.

What are you loving this week?
